J1939 Code  CDL Code  Code Description
(code descriptions may vary)
Comments
5392-31  E1370 (2)  Aftertreatment Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing Unit Loss of Prime  The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects one of the following conditions:
DEF system pressure was not within the acceptable limits during priming.
Follow the troubleshooting procedure to identify the root cause of the problem.

Table 2
Troubleshooting Test Steps  Values  Results

1. Check that the Latest Available Software is Installed

A. Ensure that the latest software is installed on the engine ECM.

B. Ensure that the latest software is installed on the Dosing Control Unit (DCU)

If necessary, refer to Troubleshooting, "ECM Software - Install" for the correct procedure.

Software

Result: The latest software is not installed.

Repair: Install the latest engine ECM software and then install the latest DCU software. If necessary, refer to Troubleshooting, "ECM Software - Install" for the correct procedure.
Start the engine and wait for 2 minutes.
If the fault is cleared, return the engine to service.
If the fault is still present, proceed to Test Step 2.

Result: The latest software is installed.

Proceed to Test Step 2.

2. Check for Associated Diagnostic Codes

A. Connect to the electronic service tool.

B. Use the electronic service tool to check for active diagnostic codes.
Check specifically for diagnostic codes relating to the DEF system.

Diagnostic codes

Result: There are associated diagnostic codes.

Repair: Troubleshoot the associated diagnostic codes. Refer to Troubleshooting, Diagnostic Trouble Codes or refer to Troubleshooting, Event Codes.

Result: There are no associated diagnostic codes.

Proceed to Test Step 3.

3. Check the DEF Pressure

A. Connect to the electronic service tool

B. Start the engine.

C. Allow the engine to run for at least 2 minutes whilst monitoring "DEF Pressure" on the electronic service tool.

Gauge position

Result: The DEF pressure is less than 260 kPa (38 psi).

Repair: Troubleshoot the cause of low DEF pressure. Refer to Troubleshooting, DEF Pressure Is Low.

Result: The DEF pressure is greater than 950 kPa (138 psi).

Repair: Troubleshoot the cause of high DEF pressure. Refer to Troubleshooting, DEF Pressure Is High.

Result: The DEF pressure is between 260 kPa (38 psi) and 950 kPa (138 psi).

Repair: Allow the engine to run for at least 2 minutes.

If the DEF system primes successfully, and the 5392–31 E1370 (2) diagnostic is no longer active, return the engine to service.
If the 5392–31 E1370 (2) diagnostic code is still active, contact the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
