Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision component. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected always.

  1. Use Tooling (B) to install bearing (23). Install ring (22). Use Tooling (B) to install lip seal (21) in bearing cage assembly (8).

  2. If dowels (24) were removed, install dowels (24).

  3. Turn bearing cage (8) onto the opposite side. Use a suitable rubber mallet to install brake shaft (19).

  4. Install hub (20) and seal (18) on brake shaft (19).

    Note: Lubricate the seal lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

  5. Install retainer (17) and bolt (16) on the brake shaft. Tighten bolts (16) to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ± 15 lb ft).

  6. Install clutch plates (14) and brake discs (15).

    Note: Start with a clutch plate (14) and end with a clutch plate (14).

  7. Install pressure plate (13) and springs (12).

  8. Install brake seals (11), backup rings (10), and lip seals (9) in the bores of brake housing (4).

    Note: Lip seals (9) must contact counterbore in the brake housing. Make sure that the sealing lips are facing outward. Lubricate the sealing lip with the lubricant that is being sealed.

  9. Use two people to install brake housing (4) on bearing cage assembly (8). The weight of brake housing (4) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb). Install brake housing (4).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.

    To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.


  10. Install bolts (7) in brake housing (4). Tighten bolts (7) evenly to a torque of 240 ± 40 N·m (177 ± 30 lb ft).

  11. Use Tooling (A) to install pistons (6) in the brake housing. Install piston (6).

  12. Install spacers (5).

  13. Install retaining plate (3) on brake housing (4).

  14. Install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) evenly to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ± 15 lb ft).

  15. Remove bolts (1).

  16. Install bolts (1) into a different location. Bolts (1) are used to disengage the parking brake.

End by:

a. Install the Parking Brake.
