Start by:

a. Remove the Parking Brake.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected always.

  1. Remove bolts (1) that are used to disengage the parking brake.

  2. Install bolts (1) in the three holes, as shown. Remove bolts (2) and the washers evenly.

  3. Remove retaining plate (3) from brake housing (4).

  4. Remove spacers (5) from the brake housing.

  5. Use Tooling (A) to remove pistons (6) from the brake housing.

  6. Loosen bolts (7) evenly until the spring tension against brake housing (4) is released. Remove bolts (7).

    Note: Note the location of bolts (7) for installation purposes.

  7. Use two people to remove brake housing (4) from bearing cage assembly (8). The weight of brake housing (4) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb).

  8. Remove lip seals (9), backup rings (10), and brake seals (11) from brake housing (4).

  9. Remove springs (12) and pressure plate (13).

  10. Remove clutch plates (14) and brake discs (15).

  11. Remove bolt (16) and retainer (17) from the brake shaft.

  12. Remove seal (18) and hub (20) from brake shaft (19).

  13. Use a suitable rubber mallet to tap brake shaft (19) out of the bottom side of bearing cage assembly (8).

  14. Remove lip seal (21), ring (22), and bearing (23) from bearing cage assembly (8).

  15. If necessary, remove dowels (24).
