Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the procedure for reworking the pre-cleaner on certain D7E Track-Type Tractors.

  1. loosen clamp (A) and remove 335-3504 Precleaner As (B) .

  1. The air cleaner and plenum can be removed as a unit to allow for the base assembly to be removed from the hood. Remove four bolts (C) that hold the air cleaner housing to the support bracket. Remove the air cleaner.

  1. Remove 335-3473 Base As (D) and 335-3479 Hose (E). The dust ejector scavenge line that attaches to the base assembly will need to be disconnected. The mounting bolts and lower clamp will be reused with the new precleaner installation.

  1. The hood will need to be modified to allow for tube assembly (2) to be bolted to the hood between the hood precleaner tube and exhaust stack.

    (F) 62.5 mm (2.46 inch)

    (G) 45 mm (1.77 inch)

    (H) Hood center line

    (J) 13.5 mm (0.53 inch) hole

    (K) 50.8 mm (2.00 inch) hole

    (L) 45 mm (1.77 inch)

    (M) 45 mm (1.77 inch)

  1. Use the dimensions in Illustration 16 to modify the hood for tube assembly (2) .

  1. Install tube assembly (2) using two bolts (3), four washers (4), and two nuts (5). The bent portion of the tube runs towards the left-hand side of the machine. Tube assembly (2) will need to be painted black.

  1. Reconnect the dust ejector scavenge line. Torque the clamp (N) to 7.5 N·m (66 lb in).

  1. Install base assembly (1) reusing the existing hardware. Torque the bolts to 55 N·m (40 lb ft).

  1. Reinstall the air cleaner and plenum using existing bolts (C) .

  1. Position 9L-3628 Reducer Hose (P). Torque both clamps (Q) to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  1. Install precleaner assembly (6). Torque precleaner clamp (R) to 47 N·m (35 lb ft). Torque scavenge line clamp (S) to 4.5 N·m (40 lb in).

  1. loosen clamp (A) and remove 335-3474 Precleaner As (B) .

  1. Preassemble the following parts and install.

    • Clamps (7)

    • Hose (8)

    • Spacer (9)

    • Washer (10)

    • Bolt (11)

    • Check Valve (12)

  1. Reconnect the dust ejector scavenge line. Torque the clamp (N) to 7.5 N·m (66 lb in).
