Clean Emissions Module - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the hood (clean emissions module).

------ WARNING! ------

Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.

  1. Turn disconnect switch (1) to the OFF position.

  2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct filling and draining procedure.

  3. Remove insulation (1) from hose assembly (2).

    Note: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8231, "Removal Procedures for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Connectors" for the correct removal procedure of hose assembly (2).

  4. Disconnect hose assembly (2) and harness assembly (3).

  5. Disconnect hose assemblies (4).

  6. Disconnect soot sensor wires (6) from clean emissions module (5).

  7. Remove bolts (8), the plate assembly, nitrogen oxide sensor (7), and nitrogen oxide sensor (9).

  8. Disconnect harness assemblies (10) from clean emissions module (5).

  9. Loosen clamp (11) to disconnect flexible exhaust pipe (12) from clean emissions module (5).

  10. Attach a suitable lifting device to clean emissions module (5). The weight of clean emissions module (5) is approximately 113 kg (250 lb).

  11. Remove bolts (13) and clean emission module (5).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install clean emissions module (5) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten clamp (11) to a torque of 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

    2. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of nitrogen oxide sensor (7) and nitrogen oxide sensor (9).

    3. Tighten nitrogen oxide sensor (7) and nitrogen oxide sensor (9) to a torque of 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    4. Tighten soot sensor wires (6) to a torque of 1.2 ± 0.20 N·m (10.62 ± 1.770 lb in).
