Usage:
3406, 3408 and 3412 Engines In All Applications
Reference: Service Magazine, January 17, 1977, Page 2, "Improved Main and Connecting Rod Bearings Have Aluminum Alloy With More Strength".)
Description of Change: The reference article gave a description of the improved main and connecting rod bearings used on the above engines. These are the standard size bearings for use on crankshafts with wider bearing journals. At that time, replacement bearings were not available.
Replacement main and connecting rod bearings are now available for 3406, 3408 and 3412 Engines in all applications. Also available are the standard, oversize and undersize bearings for earlier 3406 Engines equipped with crankshafts that had narrow bearing journals. All of these replacement bearings and standard bearings are made of the same aluminum alloy. These bearings also have the advantages shown below:
-
- 1. Better resistance to cavitation.
- 2. Stronger bond (method to fasten) between the aluminum alloy and steel.
- 3. Improved service life.
- 1. Better resistance to cavitation.
Adaptable As: Direct replacement. The charts that follow give a complete list of the standard bearings, standard replacement bearings, and the oversize and undersize replacement bearings.
