Usage:

SUPPLEMENT: 03/24/80

SERVICE MAGAZINE, OCTOBER 17, 1977, PAGES 1 AND 2. In the article "Fabricated Extension Prevents Fuel "Splash" During Injection Valve Testing", Illustration 3 on page 2 shows the FT1384 Extension has an inside diameter of 4.50" (114.3 mm). This is wrong. The outside diameter of the FT1384 Extension is 4.50" (114.3 mm).

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Fuel injection valves are tested with the 5P4150 Nozzle Tester Group or an 8S2242 Nozzle Tester Group that has had the 5P4149 Conversion Group installed. An 8S2270 Fuel Collector holds the test fuel or calibrating oil used to check the spray pattern, pressure at which the valve will open, tip leakage, and return leakage.

Illustration 1. Fabricated extension prevents fuel splash problems.

When the 5P4150 Nozzle Tester Group is used, the 8S2270 Fuel Collector must be put at different heights to keep the nozzle orifices below the rim of the fuel collector. As the amount of test fuel or calibrating oil increases in the fuel collector, the spray will cause the fluid to "splash" out of the fuel collector.

The FT1384 Extension prevents the splash and permits the fuel collector to be used at one height (Illustration 1). The FT1384 Extension can be used with any 5P4150 Nozzle Tester Group or any 8S2242 Nozzle Tester Group that has had a 5P4149 Conversion Group installed (Illustration 2).

Illustration 3. Dimensions for the FT1384 Extensions.

Drawings to fabricate the FT1384 Extension are available from your Division Service Manager. Also, Illustration 3 gives you dimensions needed to make this tool. You can get the clear acrylic tubing from a plastics supply house.

NOTE: The height of the extension is according to the way in which the nozzle tester group is installed.
