Retarder - Test
System Operation Description:
The engine uses two systems to provide additional braking capability for the vehicle:
Variable Nozzle Turbocharger (VNT) - The ECM commands the variable vanes inside the VNT to close. This provides braking by causing an exhaust restriction.
Compression Brake - The ECM can activate engine retarders.
Test Step 1. Call for Assistance
Troubleshooting procedures for this system have not been established. Contact your local technical communicator for Caterpillar on-highway truck engines for assistance.
