E361 High Engine Coolant Temperature

Usage:

C6.6DE150E ECR
Conditions Which Generate This Code:

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects a fault with the engine's coolant temperature. The ECM detects the following faults:

  • The engine has been running for more than three minutes.

  • The engine coolant temperature trip level for the event code is reached.

  • Diagnostic code 110-3 Engine Coolant Temperature open/short to +batt is not active.

  • Diagnostic code 110-4 Engine Coolant Temperature short to ground is not active.

System Response:

The event code will be logged.

The warning lamp will be illuminated and the diagnostic lamp will flash the event code.

E361-1 There is no performance effect.

None

E361-2 The engine will be derated at a rate of one percent per second.

The derate lamp will be illuminated.

E361-3 The shutdown lamp will be illuminated.

The ECM will shut down the engine after two seconds when the trip level has been reached.

A shutdown of the engine will only occur if the "Enable Shutdown" customer programmable parameter has been enabled.

Test Step 1.

Refer to Troubleshooting, "Coolant Temperature Is Too High".
