Engine Oil Cooler - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the front center bottom guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bottom Guard - Remove" for the correct procedure.
  2. Remove the right engine side guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Side Guards - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System (ELC) Coolant - Change" for the correct procedure. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities - Refill" for the capacity of the cooling system.

  1. Disconnect hose (1). Remove bolts (2). Remove clip (3) .

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (5). Remove bolts (6). Remove bonnet (4) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil cooler (7). Remove bolts (8). Disconnect hose assembly (9). Remove engine oil cooler (7). The weight of engine oil cooler (7) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb).

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil cooler (7). Position engine oil cooler (7). The weight of engine oil cooler (7) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb). Connect hose assembly (9). Install bolts (8) .

  1. Position bonnet (4). Install bolts (6). Connect harness assembly (5) .

  1. Position clip (3). Install bolts (2). Connect hose (1) .

  1. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System (ELC) Coolant - Change" for the correct procedure. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities - Refill" for the capacity of the cooling system.

End By:

  1. Install the right engine side guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Side Guards - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
  2. Install the front center bottom guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bottom Guard - Install" for the correct procedure.
