Removal Procedure

Note: The removal procedure is similar for the three cylinder and the four cylinder engines. The illustrations show the four cylinder engine.

Note: The inlet manifold is part of the valve mechanism cover.

1. Remove bolts (2) from connector (3) . Remove the connector from valve mechanism cover (6) . Remove gasket (4) .

2. Remove bolts (1) and nuts (5) .

3. Remove valve mechanism cover (6) from housing (7) for the rocker shaft assembly. Remove valve cover seal (8) from valve mechanism cover (6) . Inspect the valve cover seal. If the valve cover seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.

Installation Procedure

Note: The installation procedure is similar for the three cylinder and the four cylinder engines. The illustrations show the four cylinder engine.

1. Clean all surfaces thoroughly.

2. Apply Tooling (A) to the valve cover seal. Install valve cover seal (8) on valve mechanism cover (6) .

3. Install valve mechanism cover (6) on housing (7) for the rocker shaft assembly.

4. Install bolts (1) and nuts (5) . Tighten the bolts and the nuts to a torque of 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

5. Install a new gasket (4) on valve mechanism cover (6) . Install connector (3) and bolts (2) . Tighten the bolts to a torque of 14 N·m (10 lb ft).
