Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel - Remove".

1. Support the engine with a suitable lifting device or support the engine on blocks that are positioned on a flat level surface.

2. Remove bolts (3) and bolts (5) .

3. Remove bolts (1) from back plate (2) and flywheel housing (8) .

4. Remove nuts (7) and the bolts (not shown) from back plate (2) and flywheel housing (8) .

5. Remove flywheel housing (8) from dowels (6). Remove bolts (4) and back plate (2) from dowels (6) on the cylinder block.

1. Clean the rear face of the cylinder block, the faces of back plate (2), and the mating face of flywheel housing (8). Inspect the crankshaft rear seal for leaks. Inspect dowels (6) for damage. If the crankshaft rear seal or the dowels are damaged, use new parts for replacement.

2. Apply a continuous bead of Tooling (A) to the rear face of the cylinder block around the mating surface of the crankshaft rear seal and around the rear core plug for the camshaft.

3. Position back plate (2) on dowels (6). Install bolts (4) .

4. Position flywheel housing (8) on dowels (6) .

5. Install nuts (7) and the bolts (not shown) on back plate (2) and flywheel housing (8) .

6. Install bolts (1) on back plate (2) and flywheel housing (8) .

7. Install bolts (5) and bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 25 N·m (19 lb ft).

End By: Install the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel - Install".
