Single Camera System

Available Selections for the Operator for the WAVS Display

The selections that are listed in this section have been made available to the operator of the machine. The selections for the display for the Caterpillar Work Area Vision System (WAVS) can be changed by the operator as the operator needs. Refer to Table 1. Refer to Illustration 2.

Adjustment for Brightness

The option of adjustment for brightness allows the operator to vary the brightness of the view that is shown on the display. The display may appear white in an area that is lighted if the following conditions exist:

  • The level for brightness is high.

  • The automatic brightness is not enabled.

Adjustment for Contrast

The option for adjustment of contrast allows the operator to vary the contrast of the view that is shown on the display.

"Manual Camera" Selection

Manual mode is available only on installations of WAVS Multiple Camera.

Note: The manual mode is not available for installations of WAVS Single Camera.

Automatic Brightness "ON/OFF"

The option for automatic brightness "ON/OFF" allows the operator to set the display to change the level of brightness automatically. The WAVS display is equipped with a sensor to detect ambient light. When WAVS is placed in the mode for automatic brightness, the display will illuminate with decreased ambient light. Also, the display will dim automatically with increased ambient light.

The brightness starting set point can be changed by the operator in the manual mode or in the automatic mode. To change the set point, turn the auto brightness ON. Perform the adjustment for brightness to the desired level for the starting point.

Standby "ON/OFF"

Standby may be useful at the following times:

  • Travel at night.

  • Reverse will not be used.

If the standby option is enabled, then the display will remain dark until the system is activated by machine operation or by the operator.

Adjustment for Brightness  Press button (7) to enable the "Brightness Adjustment". Then press either button (9) or (10) in order to adjust the brightness.  If automatic brightness is enabled, the brightness starting set point can be changed by the operator in the manual mode or the automatic mode.
Press any other key on the display in order to exit the mode for adjustment of brightness. 
Adjustment for Contrast  Press button (6) in order to enable the adjustment for contrast. Then press either button (9) or (10) in order to adjust the contrast level.  Press any other key on the display in order to exit the mode for adjustment of contrast. 
Automatic Brightness "ON/OFF"  Press button (5) in order to turn the option for automatic brightness "ON/OFF".  When WAVS is placed in the mode for automatic brightness, the display will illuminate with decreased ambient light. Also, the display will dim automatically with increased ambient light. 
Standby "ON/OFF"  Press button (11) in order to turn the standby option ON/OFF.  If the standby mode is ON, the display will remain dark until an input for WAVS is detected. However, the power and standby LED should remain ON. 
LED Indication 
If the LED for button (11) and the LED of the camera that is selected flash together, the image is switched off because the ambient temperature is below −25 °C (−13°F) or the ambient temperature is above 70 °C (158 °F)

Multiple Camera System

Available Selections for the Operator for the WAVS Display

The selections that are listed in this section have been made available to the operator of the machine. The selections for the WAVS display can be changed by the operator as the operator needs. Refer to Table 2. Refer to Illustration 2.

Adjustment for Brightness

The option for adjustment of brightness allows the operator to vary the brightness of the view that is shown on the display. The display may appear white in an area that is lighted if the following conditions exist:

  • The level for brightness is high.

  • The automatic brightness is not enabled.

Adjustment for Contrast

The option for adjustment to contrast allows the operator to vary the contrast of the view that is shown on the display.

Manual Camera Selection

Manual mode is available only on installations of WAVS multiple camera.

Note: The manual mode is not available for installations of WAVS single camera.

Adjustment for Brightness  Press button (7) in order to enable the "Brightness Adjustment". Then press either button (9) or (10) in order to adjust the brightness.  If automatic brightness is enabled, the set point for brightness starting can be changed by the operator. This action can be performed in the manual mode or the automatic mode.
Press any other key for the display in order to exit the mode for adjustment of brightness. 
Adjustment for Contrast  Press button (6) in order to enable the adjustment for contrast. Then press either button (9) or (10) in order to adjust the contrast level.  Press any other key on the display in order to exit the mode for adjustment to contrast. 
Manual Camera Selection  Press button (4) once in order to select"Manual" mode.
Press button (4) again in order to select the next camera view. 
One of the indicator LED(s) (1) to the left of button (4) will illuminate in order to indicate the camera view that is being displayed.
The LED button for the camera selected will blink in order to indicate that you are in the manual mode. 
Automatic Camera Selection  Press and hold button (4) for two seconds to exit "Manual" mode and the switch to the "Automatic" mode.  In this mode, a camera view will be selected by a specified input such as placing the machine in reverse gear. 
Automatic Brightness ON/OFF  Press button (5) to turn the option for adjustment of automatic brightness ON/OFF.  When WAVS is placed in the mode for automatic brightness, the display will illuminate with decreased ambient light. Also, the display will dim automatically with increased ambient light. 
Standby ON/OFF  Press button (11) to turn the standby option ON/OFF.  If the standby mode is ON, the display will remain dark until an input for the WAVS system is detected. However, the power and standby LED should remain on. 
LED Indication 
If the LED for button (11) and the LED of the camera that is selected flash together, the image is switched off because the ambient temperature is below −25 °C (−13°F) or the ambient temperature is above 70 °C (158 °F)
