Automatic Mode for the Single Camera System
The single camera system is available only with the enabled automatic mode. The single camera system can be placed in "Standby" if the system is configured. Refer to "Standby Mode" for an explanation of the "Standby" option.
Manual mode is intended for use only with the multiple camera applications. Manual mode is disabled for use in a single camera system.
Note: If the single camera system can be placed in manual mode, notify Caterpillar service personnel.
In a single camera system, the system will automatically display the camera view that is based on current machine operation which is determined by the system configuration. For example, the Caterpillar Work Area Vision System (WAVS) may be configured to display the view from a rearward looking camera when the operator selects reverse gear.
Your single camera system installation may be configured with the Standby feature that is enabled or disabled. If "Standby" is enabled, the display will remain dark unless the camera view has been activated by machine operation. Standby may be useful at the following times:
- Travel at night.
- Reverse will not be used.
If the Standby feature is disabled and if the display is on constantly, the operator has the option of adjusting the brightness of the display. If the Standby feature is disabled and if the display is on constantly, the operator has the option of adjusting the contrast of the display.
Automatic Mode for a Multiple Camera System
When the system is in the automatic mode, the system automatically selects the preferred camera view that is based on current machine operation which is determined by the system configuration. For example, WAVS may be configured to display the view from the rearward looking camera when the operator selects reverse gear.
In a multiple camera system, the operator can override the automatic view by either of the following selections:
- Selecting "Manual Mode" on the display
- Pressing the "Alternate Camera" switch
Refer to Illustration 1.

In the "Automatic" mode, automatic selection of each camera will be enabled and the appropriate camera will be activated. In automatic mode, the display can also be placed in "Standby".
Note: The preferred camera view will always be shown on the display screen unless the display is placed in "Manual" mode.
The Alternate camera switch allows the third camera to be activated. In the example of the Off-Highway Truck, the third camera is the side camera. The switch is a momentary switch that will need to be held down in order to activate the third camera. The image on the display will return to the front camera or the rear camera when the switch is released. This action is dependent on the camera that has been activated by the machine. If the switch is configured, this switch may also be providing power to a light that is concentrating on the viewing area of the side camera. If the system is configured correctly, the light will turn on when the camera is activated with the alternate camera switch.
Note: If the image for the side camera is selected by using the buttons on the display in manual mode, the light on the side will not be powered because the light receives power from the alternate camera switch. The light does not receive power from the display.
In automatic mode, the display can also be placed into "Standby". In standby, the display will remain dark unless a camera view has been activated by machine operation or by the operator. Standby may be useful at the following times:
- Travel at night.
- Reverse will not be used.
Manual Mode For Multiple Camera Systems
In MANUAL mode, camera views are not activated based on machine operation, therefore, the view that is displayed may not be the view that is normally shown. AUTOMATIC mode is recommended for machine operation in order to display the intended view for machine operation. |
The manual mode is used in order to override the automatic mode. The manual mode is used in order to display an alternate camera view. The manual mode is used in order to change the settings for the camera view.
Note: Once in the manual mode, the red LED to the top right of the camera select button will flash until the system is placed back into the automatic mode.
Note: If the display does a sequence to the next group of stored settings, this action may alter the appearance of the view or the orientation of the camera view.
