The 2W5659 Gasket announced in the April 4, 1983 Service Magazine has been canceled and replaced by the original 1F4419 Gasket.
Most leaks can be eliminated by using the correct torque and following the tightening sequence shown in the chart. If leaks continue, 3S6252 RTV Silicone Sealant can be applied between the gasket and cover. Before application of the sealant, thoroughly clean the surfaces of the cylinder block and water passage cover that come into contact with each other. Then apply a 3.0 mm (.12") diameter bead of the sealant to the gasket mounting surface on the cover. The bead should be applied on the inboard side of the bolt holes in the cover. Install the new gasket and tighten in the sequence shown in the chart. Tighten to a standard bolt torque of 43 ± 7 N·m (32 ± 5 lb ft).
