Start By:

  1. Remove the pilot valve for the grapple. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Joystick Control and Pilot Valve (Grapple) - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Push up boot (2). Loosen jam nut (3) and remove control handle (1) from pilot valve (4).

    Note: Steps 2 through 4 are for disassembling the control handle, if necessary.

  2. Pull buttons (6) off control handle (1).

  3. Remove screws (5) and the washers in order to remove plate (7).

  4. Remove nuts (8) in order to separate switches (9) from plate (7). Remove the solder from the wires in order to remove the switches from the control handle.

  5. Remove jam nut (3) and plate (10) from pilot valve (4).

  6. Remove bolts (11) and plate (12).

  7. Remove plate (13).

  8. Remove bolt (14) and the swivel from plate (13).

  9. Remove gaskets (15).

  10. Remove capsule (17) and spring (16) from the pilot valve.

  11. To disassemble the capsule, remove plunger assembly (21), O-ring seal (19), and U-cup seal (20) from cap (18).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

    Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

    Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.


  12. Use Tooling (A) to compress the spring on plunger assembly (21).

  13. Use a small screwdriver to remove retaining ring (22).

  14. Remove spring seat (29), shim (28), spring (27), retaining ring (26), spring seat (25), and retainer (23) from plunger (24).

  15. Repeat Steps 10 through 14 for the remaining capsules.

  16. Remove hose fitting (36), capsule (34), spring (31), and plunger (30) from the pilot valve.

  17. Remove O-ring (33) and backup ring (32) from capsule (34). Remove O-ring seal (35) from hose fitting (36).

  18. Repeat Steps 16 and 17 for the remaining capsules.
