    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement. Lubricate the O-ring seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.

  1. Position the load cylinder to the cushion-hitch. The load cylinder weighs 52 kg (115 lb). Use Tooling (A) and a hammer to install the thrust washers and pin (37) that secures load cylinder (35) to the cushion-hitch. Remove the tooling from the load cylinder.

    The hydraulic hoses were removed for photographic purposes.

  1. Connect the O-ring seal and hose assembly (36) to load cylinder (35). Position the O-ring seal and hose assembly (34) to load cylinder (35). Install two half flanges, the washers and four bolts (33) that secure hose assembly (34) to load cylinder (35) .

  1. Position upper link assembly (32) to the cushion-hitch. The upper link assembly weighs 73 kg (161 lb). Use Tooling (A) and a hammer to install the thrust washers and the pin that secures the load cylinder and upper link assembly (32) to the cushion-hitch. Repeat the procedure for the other pin. Remove the tooling from the upper link assembly.

  1. Position two retainers (31) to the cushion-hitch. Install the washers and 12 bolts (30) that secure two retainers (31) to the cushion-hitch. Connect two lubrication lines (29) to the cushion-hitch. Position bracket (28) to the cushion-hitch. Install the washers and two bolts (27) that secure bracket (28) to the cushion-hitch. Connect the O-ring seals and three hose assemblies (25) to tube assemblies (26) .

  1. Position lubrication lines (20) to the cushion-hitch. Position two retainers (24) and spring (22) to the cushion-hitch. Install 10 bolts (23) that secure two retainers (24) and spring (22) to the cushion-hitch. Install pin (21) that secures the leveling valve to spring (22). Install the cotter pin that secures pin (21) to spring (22). Connect four lubrication lines (20) to the cushion-hitch. Position two clips (19) to the cushion-hitch. Install the washers and two bolts (18) that secure two clips (19) to the cushion-hitch.

  1. Position the lubrication lines and two clips (17) to the cushion-hitch. Install the washer and bolt (16) that secures two clips (17) to the cushion-hitch. Position the lubrication lines and clip (15) to the cushion-hitch. Install the washer and bolt (14) that secures clip (15) to the bracket.

  1. Position two retainers (13) to the cushion-hitch. Install the washers and 12 bolts (12) that secure two retainers (13) to the cushion-hitch. Connect two lubrication lines (11) to the cushion-hitch.

  1. Position two retainers (10) to the cushion-hitch. Install the washers and 11 bolts (9) that secure two retainers (10) to the cushion-hitch. Connect two lubrication lines (8) to the cushion-hitch. Connect two tube assemblies (7) to the cushion-hitch. Install the clip, the washer and bolt (6) that secures tube assembly (7) to the cushion-hitch.

  1. Position bracket (5) to the cushion-hitch. Install four bolts (4) that secure bracket (5) to the cushion-hitch. Position the O-ring seal and hose assembly (2) to tube assembly (3). Install two half flanges, the washers and four bolts (1) that secure hose assembly (2) to tube assembly (3) .

  1. Install the cushion-hitch accumulator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Accumulator (Cushion-Hitch) - Install" for the correct installation procedure.

  1. Install the servo steering cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Servo Steering Cylinder - Remove and Install" for the correct installation procedure.

  1. Lower the scraper bowl with Tooling (B). Remove the cribbing between the scraper bowl and the draft frame. Remove the tooling from the scraper bowl.
