Installation Procedure

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Lubricate the O-ring seals with the lubricant that is being sealed. Lubricate the bores of the cushion-hitch with Tooling (D) before assembly.

2. Position cushion-hitch (86) to the machine. The weight of cushion-hitch (86) is approximately 1588 kg (3500 lb).

3. Install pin (84). Position the retainer to the cushion-hitch. Install bolts (81) that secure the retainer to the cushion-hitch. Repeat the procedure for the other bolts and the other retainer on the cushion-hitch. Use Tooling (B) to install nut (82) onto pin (84). Tighten nut (82) to a minimum torque of 745 N·m (550 lb ft). Rotate nut (82) until nut (82) is to the next locking position. Install pin (85) to nut (82). Install cotter pin (83) that secures pin (85) to nut (82) .

4. Install the cushion-hitch pin to the cushion-hitch. Position retainer (80) to the cushion-hitch pin. Install bolts (79) that secure retainer (80) to the cushion-hitch pin. Repeat the procedure for the other end of the cushion-hitch pin.

5. Install Tooling (B) between the cushion-hitch and the frame. Make sure that the tooling is securely placed between the cushion-hitch and the frame. Remove the suitable lifting device from the cushion-hitch.

6. Position the tube assemblies and bracket (78) onto the cushion-hitch. Install bolts (77) that secure bracket (78) .

7. Position the tube assemblies and bracket (76). Install bolts (75) that secure bracket (76) .

8. Position clamp (74) (not shown) that secures tube assemblies (74). Install bolts (73) (not shown).

9. Connect tube assemblies (71) onto adapters (70). Connect the opposite end of tube assemblies (71). Connect tube assembly (21) onto adapter (69) .

10. Position clamps (68) and install bolts (67). Position leveling valve (64) onto the cushion-hitch. The weight of leveling valve (64) is approximately 77 kg (170 lb). Install bolts (63) that secure leveling valve (64). Install clamps (66) and bolts (65) that secure tube assembly (13) .

11. Position spring (59). Install bolts (58), cotter pin (56), and pin (57) that secures spring (59). Install bolt (61) and the clip that secures tube assembly (51). Connect tube assembly (42) onto adapter (62). Install bolt (60) onto tube assembly (42) .

12. Connect hose assembly (53) onto load cylinder (52). Connect hose assembly (55) onto load cylinder (52) and install bolts (54) .

13. Connect hose assembly (50) onto tube assembly (51). Connect hose assembly (49). Install bolt (46) and the clip that secures hose assembly (49). Install clamp (45) and bolts (44). Connect hose assemblies (48) onto tube assemblies (43). Connect hose assembly (47) onto tube assembly (42) .

14. Connect harness assembly (40). Install harness assembly (40) onto clip (41) .

15. Position bracket (35) and install bolts (34). Connect tube assemblies (36) onto hose assemblies (37). Position clamp (38) and the harness assembly. Install bolt (39) .

16. Position the wiring harness and clips (33). Install bolt (32) .

17. Position hose assemblies (31). Position clamps (30) and install bolts (29). Repeat the procedure for the other side.

18. Connect hose assembly (27) onto tube assembly (28). Install bolts (24) that secure junction block (26). Install bolts (23) that secure tube assembly (11). Install bolt (25) and the clamp that secures hose assemblies (22). Install bolt (20) and the clip that secures tube assembly (21) .

19. Connect hose assemblies (19) onto the lubrication manifold. Install bolt (17) (not shown) and clamps (18). Install clamp (16) .

23. Position harness assembly (6) onto bracket (2). Install clamp (5) and bolt (7). Position hose assemblies (4) onto bracket (2). Install clamps (3) and bolts (1) .

End By:

1. Install the servo steering cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Servo Steering Cylinder - Remove and Install".
2. Connect the tractor and the scraper. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tractor and Scraper - Connect".
3. Install the cushion-hitch accumulator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Accumulator (Cushion-Hitch) - Install".
4. Install the air cleaner. Refer to the Engine Supplement Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Cleaner - Remove and Install".
