Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Note: The hydraulic tank supplies oil to the decking blade, to the grapple, to the brakes and to the steering system.
- Operate the machine in order to warm the oil. Then, park the machine on a level surface.
- Lower all attachments to the ground. Apply the parking brake and stop the engine.
- Open the access door on the top of the engine enclosure.

- Install a 1 inch NPT pipe nipple that is 100 mm (4 inch) long in order to open the internal drain valve. Drain the oil into a suitable container.
- Remove the pipe nipple and install the drain plug.
- Replace the hydraulic oil filter.
Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Filter - Replace" for the correct procedure.
- Remove the filler screen. Clean the screen and install the screen.
- Fill the hydraulic tank with oil.
Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" for the correct amount of oil.
- Inspect the filler cap gasket. If the gasket is damaged, replace the gasket.
- Clean the filler cap and install the filler cap.
- Start the engine and check for leaks. Check the hydraulic oil level. Add oil, if necessary.
Note: The oil must be free of bubbles. If bubbles are present in the oil, air is entering the hydraulic system. Inspect the suction line for leaks.
- Stop the engine.
