New ROPS Canopy Has Higher Gross Machine Weight Certification {7323}

Usage:

994 (9YF),
994D (3TZ) Wheel Loaders

Description of Change: A new ROPS canopy is being used on 994D (3TZ) Wheel Loaders. The new ROPS canopy has a higher gross machine weight certification than the ROPS canopy that was previously used on 994 (9YF) Wheel Loaders.

Effective With: The new 165-4000 Canopy Assembly is effective with all 994D (3TZ) Wheel Loaders. The new 165-4000 Canopy Assembly is adaptable to first production for 994 (9YF) Wheel Loaders.

994 Wheel Loader ROPS Canopy Assembly.

The new 165-4000 Canopy Assembly has a gross machine weight certification of 215,000 kg (473,000 lb). The 8X-0635 Canopy Assembly has a gross machine weight certification of 205,000 kg (451,950 lb).

If non-Caterpillar attachments such as tire chains, additional bucket wear packages, guarding, etc., are used on 994D (3TZ) or 994 (9YF) Wheel Loaders, the combination of the attachments can add significant weight to the machine. The combined weight of the additional attachments added to the weight of the machine may approach or exceed the gross machine weight certification of the machine ROPS canopy assembly.

If the addition of non-Caterpillar attachments has caused the gross machine weight of a 994 (9YF) Wheel Loader to exceed 205,000 kg (451,950 lb), a new 165-4000 Canopy Assembly can be installed.

ROPS Canopy Assembly Installation Procedure For 994 (9YF) Wheel Loaders

1. Remove the 8X-0635 Canopy Assembly.

Reference: For information on removing the 994 (9YF) 8X-0635 Canopy Assembly, refer to the Service Manual module, SENR4755, Disassembly and Assembly, 994 Wheel Loader Vehicle Systems; "ROPS".

2. Install the new 165-4000 Canopy Assembly.

NOTE: In order to install the new 165-4000 Canopy Assembly on a 994 (9YF) Wheel Loader, twelve additional bolt holes must be added to the machine frame. Use the new 165-4000 Canopy Assembly as a template for locating the twelve additional bolt holes.

Drill and tap the twelve additional bolt holes 68 mm (2.7 in) deep. Use a 27 mm (1.1 in) diameter drill to drill the holes. Use a M30 X 3.5 - 6H Tap to thread the holes. Thread the holes to a depth of 68 mm (2.7 in).

Reference: For information on installing the 994 (9YF) Canopy Assembly, refer to the Service Manual module, SENR4755, Disassembly and Assembly, 994 Wheel Loader Vehicle Systems; "ROPS".
