Usage:
D11R (9TR, 9XR) Track-Type Tractors
Description of Change: Two changes have been made to reduce wear on the cover for the pinion tail bearings. Wear of the cover can lead to misalignment and reduce life of the pinion and bevel gears.
First, loctite 620 has been applied to the outer 119-4140 Bearing Cup to reduce spinning. Setup time for the loctite is 30 minutes with primer and 60 minutes without the primer.
Second, the former 119-3374 Cover has been replaced with a 178-7586 Cover. The new cover has been hardened to prevent wear when the cup does spin.
Bearing settings have not changed with these improvements.
Adaptable To: The new cover (178-7586) is a direct replacement for the former 119-3374 Cover. The new cover and loctite application were effective on transmission serial number 1SY1030 and D11R (9TR407, 411, 412, 415, 417, 418, 421, 422, 426, 431, 433, 434, 443, 444, 446, 448-Up, 9XR190) Track-Type Tractors. It is suggested that any exchange units be reworked before being put into service with the following procedure.
1. Remove the 3T-8651 intermediate housing (part of the 116-9496 Case) to gain access to the 119-3374 Cover.
2. Remove the 119-3374 Cover and the shim pack underneath, keeping the shim pack intact.
3. Remove one of the 5P-4254 Retaining Bolts from the pinion gear and pull the gear up until the 119-4140 Cup extends approximately 1/2 inch from the bearing cage.
4. Lower the pinion gear and reinstall the 5P-4254 Bolt.
5. Remove the outer 119-4140 Cup from the bearing cage. If the cup will not easily come out of the cage, apply the loctite with the cup in the cage.
6. Apply a thin film of loctite 620 to the center of the outer diameter of the cup.
7. Reinstall the cup into the bearing cage and wipe off excess loctite.
8. Reinstall the shim pack and install a new 178-7586 Cover.
9. Reinstall the 3T-8651 Intermediate Housing.
NOTE: The bearing end play does not change with this procedure.
