SCJ and 8SC Series Alternators Caterpillar

Alternator - Disassemble

Usage:

D10R 3KR

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Mark all wires for correct assembly. Remove 2 bolts (17) from diode assemblies and disconnect wires.

    Illustration 14g01066814

  1. Remove nuts (18) and washers (19) from diode assembly mounting bolts and carefully remove rear housing from the diode assemblies.

  1. Remove the insulated washers and plastic sleeves from the diode assembly mounting bolts.

    NOTICE

Failure to use long nose pliers as a heat sink can cause damage to the diodes because of too much heat during lead unsoldering.

  1. Mark all wires for proper assembly. Using a pair of long nose pliers as a heat sink, unsolder stator leads (20) from diode assemblies (21).
