Proper documentation is required when a warranty claim is submitted. There has been an increase in warranty claims that have been submitted with incorrect part numbers. Many times, the replacement part number is used instead of the failed part number. Incorrect identification of the failed parts will cause erroneous data to be supplied to the factory.
Perform a search of the failed part at the group level if you are not sure of the correct part number. In order to determine the correct part number of any suspect component, use the following steps.
- Determine the component that needs to be replaced.
- Access the As Shipped Consist in SIS Web in order to find the group level print for that component. The individual part numbers can be found on the group level print.
Do not use the replacement part number. Ensure that the failed part number is used when a warranty claim is submitted.
Do not use SP part numbers in the warranty claim. Only use SP part numbers when Caterpillar format part numbers are not used on the product that is being serviced. Refer to, SEBD0850, "Caterpillar Product Service Reporting Codes For SIMS and Service Claims Use" for the proper guidelines.
Note: Accuracy of this information is very important in order to drive the proper response to product issues.
Refer to the "Caterpillar Warranty Bulletin" for instructions on completing warranty claims. There is also a web site on the Caterpillar Intranet that contains all the information about the "Caterpillar Warranty Bulletins".
