FT1421 Spring Installer Makes Installation of Seat Suspension Springs Easier{7324,0622}

Usage:

The seat suspension group used in many Caterpillar products has two strong torsion springs (Illustration 1) which must be removed and installed during disassembly and assembly of the seat suspension. Each of these springs has a tang (Illustration 1) which fits into a hole in the side of the seat plate. The tang can be removed from the hole with a screwdriver during disassembly, but installation at assembly is very difficult because of the strength of the springs.

For this purpose, a new FT1421 Spring Installer can now be fabricated. See Illustration 2. The new fabricated tool has a hook to engage the tang of the spring, and a contact surface with a radius to fit against the spring body. Illustration 3 shows the tool in position to use.

The new FT1421 Spring Installer makes assembly of the seat suspension much easier, and it can be used on all Caterpillar products which are equipped with this suspension group. Drawings to fabricate the new tool are available from your Division Service Manager.
