Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  2. Loosen hose clamps (1). Slide hose (2) onto tube assembly (3).

  3. Remove bolts (4). Remove tube assembly (3). Remove the retainer sleeve and the O-ring seal from the tube assembly.

  4. Loosen hose clamps (5). Slide hose (6) onto tube (7). Loosen hose clamps (8). Slide hose (9) onto tube (7). Remove the tube.

  5. Loosen hose clamps (13). Slide hose (12) onto tube (11).

  6. Remove bolts (15). Remove bracket (14). Remove tube (11) from elbow (10). Remove the O-ring seal from the tube.

  7. Loosen hose clamps (19). Slide hose (20) onto tube (18).

  8. Remove bolts (17) and the retainer. Remove tube (18) from elbow (16). Remove the O-ring seal from the tube.

  9. Remove bolts (22) and remove housing (21) from bracket (26). Remove nuts (23). Remove bolts (25).

  10. Remove bracket (26) from studs (24).

  11. If necessary, remove studs (24) from the cylinder block.

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of studs (24). Install the studs into the cylinder block and tighten to a torque of 102 ± 10 N·m (75 ± 7 lb ft).

  2. Install bracket (26) onto studs (24). Install nuts (23). Install bolts (25).

  3. Position housing (21) on bracket (26). Install bolts (22).

  4. Install the O-ring seal on tube (18). Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seal. Install tube (18) in elbow (16).

  5. Align tube (18) with the tube on housing (21). Slide hose (20) in position. Tighten hose clamps (19).

  6. Install the retainer and bolt (17).

  7. Install the O-ring seal on tube (11). Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seal. Install tube (11) in elbow (10).

  8. Align tube (11) with the tube on housing (21). Slide hose (12) in position. Tighten hose clamps (13).

  9. Position bracket (14) and install bolts (15).

  10. Align tube (7) with the tube on housing (21). Slide hose (6) in position.

  11. Slide hose (9) in position.

  12. Tighten hose clamps (5). Tighten hose clamps (8).

  13. Install the O-ring seal on tube assembly (3). Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seal. Install the retainer sleeve onto tube assembly (3). Install the tube assembly in the aftercooler housing.

  14. Align tube assembly (3) with the tube on housing (21). Slide hose (2) in position. Tighten hose clamps (1). Install bolts (4).

  15. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
