NOTE: A new crankshaft pulley is installed on the 943 and 953 Track-Type Loaders effective with serial numbers 10X6254. The new pulley is a direct replacement for the former pulley. The new pulley uses a key and a press fit. The former pulley has a key, but a slip fit is used. See Service Magazine Article April 23, 1984, for the new crankshaft pulley removal and installation procedures.
1. Use an impact wrench to remove the bolt and washer from the pulley.
2. If necessary, use tooling (A) to remove pulley (1) from the crankshaft.
Install Crankshaft Front Pulley
1. Put pulley (1) in position on the crankshaft with the keyway in the pulley in alignment with key (2). Install the bolt and washer that hold the pulley in place.
2. Fasten a piece of steel (3) to the pulley with two 3/8"-16 NC bolts and washers as shown. Use a piece of steel that is approximately 609 mm (2 ft.) long, 9.5 mm (3/8 in.) thick and 25.4 mm (1 in.) wide. The piece of steel (3) will prevent rotation of the crankshaft while the bolt is tightened to a torque of 360 ± 50 N·m (270 ± 37 lb.ft.).
