Cylinder Head - Remove

Usage:

C7 FML

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the valve mechanism cover base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover Base - Remove and Install".
  2. Remove the rocker shaft and pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft And Pushrod - Remove".
  3. Remove the fan drive mounting group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive Mounting Group - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (1), harness assembly (2), and harness assembly (3) .

  1. Remove tube assembly (4) .

  1. Remove tube assembly (5) and tube assembly (6) .

  1. Disconnect tube assembly (7) and tube assembly (9) from turbocharger (8) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to cylinder head (10) .

  1. Remove bolts (11), bolts (12), and washers that hold the cylinder head to the cylinder block. Carefully remove the cylinder head from the cylinder block. The cylinder head weighs approximately 130 kg (287 lb).

  1. Remove cylinder head gasket (13) .
