  • Description of Change: Installation of 10 mm (0.4 inch) spacers and longer bolts along the bottom row of all of the camshaft housing covers will help to prevent the occurrence of oil leakage from the housing cover. This spacer allows the bolts along the bottom of the housing cover to receive a greater bolt stretch during installation. This increase in bolt stretch expands the clamping force of the bolts along the bottom of the housing cover.

Adaptable To: The installation of four 175-1367 Spacers and four 6V-2317 Bolts along the bottom row of each camshaft housing cover is now being recommended for all 3114, 3116, and 3126 Commercial Engines.

The following procedure should be used to install the new 175-1367 Spacers along the bottom row of the covers on 3114, 3116, and 3126 Commercial Engines.

    1. Check the configuration of your engine. If the configuration includes a 118-4329 Oil Manifold (1) with a bottom fitting (2) that is used to supply oil to the air compressor, then follow these steps in order to modify the location of the fitting.

      1. Remove the air compressor's oil supply line from the fitting that is in the bottom port of the oil manifold. Remove this fitting from the oil manifold.

      1. Remove the plug and the O-ring seal that is in the top port of the oil manifold.

      1. Install a 6K-1972 Flared Elbow (3) into the oil manifold's top port.

      1. Install a 9S-4182 Plug and 3J-7354 O-Ring Seal (4) in the oil manifold's bottom port.

      1. Reinstall the air compressor's oil supply line onto the new fitting.

      Typical example

    1. Remove the fuel injection pump inlet line (5) from the engine.

    1. Remove twelve bolts (X) from the bottom of the camshaft housing covers.

Do not remove the bolts from the top of the housing covers at this time.

If you are installing these spacers in order to repair or to prevent oil leakage from the housing covers, there is no need to replace the housing cover gaskets.

      Discard the bolts and washers.

    1. Install the 175-1367 Spacers and the 6V-2317 Bolts into the bottom bolt holes of each of the camshaft housing covers. Hand tighten the bolts.

Use the torque sequence that is shown in Illustration 4 to tighten of the housing bolts to the following torque. Torque the top bolts even if these bolts were not removed from the cover. ... 28 ± 7 N·m (20.7 ± 5.2 lb ft)

    1. Prior to the reinstallation of the fuel injection pump inlet line, check for interference between the inlet line and the newly installed bolts. If the head of a new bolt interferes with the inlet line, the line must be replaced with a 192-2963 Hose As .

Replace the fuel injection pump inlet line.

    1. Check the repair for leaks.

Note: If you find oil leakage at one of the camshaft housing covers, install a new 4Y-9652 Gasket and reinstall the spacers. Recheck the housing cover for leaks.
