Two different valve cover assemblies are available for venting fumes from the crankcases for these engines. The 4P-8313 Valve Mechanism Cover has the hole for the breather at the top edge of the cover. See Illustration 1. For a short period of time, the 4P-8313 Valve Mechanism Cover was manufactured with the hole for the breather at the bottom edge of the cover. This has changed. The 4P-8313 Valve Mechanism Covers that are now available have the hole for the breather at the top edge of the cover.

The 213-4518 Valve Mechanism Cover has the hole for the breather at the bottom edge of the cover. See Illustration 2. When this valve cover is used, the 4W-3027 Breather As will not interfere with the water manifold on engines with dry exhaust manifolds. The 213-4518 Valve Mechanism Cover is currently used on engine arrangements that require the fumes from the crankcase to be vented through the valve covers.
