Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the cooling system. If the engine uses Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". If the engine uses Extended Life Coolant (ELC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
- Remove vent line (1) from the expansion tank.

- Remove vent line (2) .
- Loosen hose clamp (5). Remove hose (6) .
- Remove six bolts (3) that hold the water temperature regulator housing (4) .
- Remove the water temperature regulator. Remove the gasket.
Installation Procedure

- Ensure that the gasket surface of the water temperature regulator housing is clean. Ensure that the seat for the water temperature regulator is free of debris.

- Install the water temperature regulator.
- Install a new gasket. Place water temperature regulator housing (4) in position.
- Install six bolts (3). Tighten six bolts (3) .
- Install hose (6) and hose clamp (5). Tighten the hose clamp.
- Install vent line (2) .
- Install vent line (1) onto the expansion tank.
- Fill the cooling system. If the engine uses Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". If the engine uses Extended Life Coolant (ELC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
- Operate the engine. Check for leakage.
