(3) Manual Mode Key

(4) Automatic Mode Key

Before you start the system, perform the following checks:

  1. The unit is adequately cooled. All the wiring to the module has a standard and a rating that is compatible with the system.

  1. The DC power supply is fused and connected directly to the battery. The DC power supply has the correct polarity.

  1. The emergency stop input is wired to an external normally closed switch. The switch is connected to the positive terminal of the DC power supply.

Note: If the emergency stop function is not required, connect the emergency stop input to the positive terminal of the DC power supply. The module will not operate unless either the emergency stop is configured correctly or Pin "3" is connected to the positive terminal of the DC power supply.

  1. In order to check the engine start sequence, disable the operation of the fuel solenoid. Make a visual inspection in order to ensure that it is safe to proceed. After you perform the visual inspection, connect the battery. Press the MANUAL MODE KEY (3). Then, press the START KEY (2) for a short time. The engine start sequence will begin.

  1. The starter will engage. The starter will operate for 10 seconds. After the starting motor has attempted to start the engine 3 times, the display will show "SHUTDOWN FAILED TO START". Press the STOP/RESET KEY (1) in order to reset the unit.

  1. Restore the engine to operational status by reconnecting the fuel solenoid. Then, press the MANUAL MODE KEY (3) and operate the START KEY (2). The engine should start and the starting motor should disengage automatically. If the engine does not start, then check that the engine is fully operational. Check that fuel is supplied to the engine. Also, check that the fuel solenoid is operating. The engine should now run up to operating speed. If the engine does not run up to speed and an alarm is present, check the alarm condition for validity. Also, check the input connections. The engine should continue to run for an undetermined period.

  1. Press the AUTOMATIC MODE KEY (4). The engine will run for the cooling down period (30 seconds). Then, the engine will shut down. The engine should stay in the standby mode. If the engine does not stay in the standby mode, then check for a remote start signal.

  1. Initiate an automatic start by supplying the remote start signal. The engine start sequence will begin, and the engine will run up to the operational speed. If one of the programmable outputs has been configured for the load transfer, the generator will accept the load. If the generator does not accept the load, check the wiring to the contactor coil of the generator. Check that the warm up timer has expired.

  1. Remove the remote start signal. The shutdown sequence will start. After a remote stop delay of 30 seconds, the load will be removed from the generator. Then, the engine will run for the cooling down period (30 seconds). After the engine cools, the engine will shut down into the standby mode.

  1. If satisfactory operation cannot be achieved, consult your Caterpillar dealer.
