Usage:

Installation Procedure

  1. Make sure that the threaded holes in the undercarriage frame for mounting the swivel joint are clean and free of dirt and debris.

  1. Apply 1U-8846 Liquid Gasket to the surface of the undercarriage frame for the mounting of the swivel joint.

  1. Fasten lifting slings and a hoist to the swivel joint. Place the swivel joint in swivel joint's original position in the undercarriage frame. Make sure that the identification mark on the bottom face of the swivel joint is toward the front of the machine. The weight of the swivel is approximately 29 kg (65 lb).

  1. Put 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound on the threads of four bolts (9). Install four bolts (9) in the bottom of the swivel joint.


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Install fittings (10) in the swivel joint. Install two hose assemblies (8), two hose assemblies (11) and two hose assemblies (12) in the bottom of the swivel joint.

  1. Install the cover plates (6) and (7) and install five bolts (5) .

  1. Install the boot and flange (14) over the swivel joint. Install clamp (4). Position flange (14) and install bolts (13) that hold the flange.

  1. Check the condition of the O-ring seals that are used in the ends of the six hose assemblies. The six hose assemblies connect to the top of the swivel joint. If the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Connect two hose assemblies (2) and (3) in the hose assembly's original location on the swivel joint. Connect four hose assemblies (1) in the hose assembly's original location on the swivel joint.

    Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the correct filling procedure and the correct levels for the hydraulic oil system.

  1. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level.
