Removal Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
At operating temperature the implement hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. To prevent possible injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic system before hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed. |
- Release hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this manual.
- Disconnect four hose assemblies (1) from the top of the swivel joint. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to keep dirt and debris out of the hydraulic system.

- Disconnect two hose assemblies (2) and (3) from the swivel joint. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to keep dirt and debris out of the hydraulic system.

- Loosen and remove hose clamp (4) from the swivel joint.
- Remove five bolts (5) .

- Remove cover plate (7). Remove cover plate (6) .
- Remove two hose assemblies (12) from the bottom of the swivel joint. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to keep dirt and debris out of the hydraulic system.

- Remove two hose assemblies (11) from the swivel joint. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to keep dirt and debris out of the hydraulic system.
- Remove two hose assemblies (8) from the swivel joint. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to keep dirt and debris out of the hydraulic system.
- Remove fittings (10) in order to create extra clearance for removing the boot from the swivel joint.
- Remove four bolts (9) and the washers that secure the swivel joint to the undercarriage of the machine.
- Remove eight bolts (13) that secure flange (14) and the boot to the frame.

- Fasten lifting slings to the swivel joint and remove the swivel joint from the machine. The weight of the swivel joint is approximately 29 kg (65 lb).
