3608 Engine Marine Monitoring System Caterpillar

Central Processing Unit - Replace

Usage:

3608 1ZD
The PLC contains no parts that move. The PLC is very reliable. Most problems occur in the connectors, wiring, or sensors. Follow the troubleshooting procedures in this manual.

Verify that the processor is the problem. Temporarily connect a new processor. Remove the memory module from the old processor. Install the memory module in the new processor. Next program the parameters. The parameters must be programmed in the new processor. Do not change any parameters when you program the new processor.

If the new processor resolves the problem, reconnect the old processor. Install the original memory module. Verify that the problem returns. If the problem returns, replace the old processor.

Consult your Caterpillar dealer in order to obtain any unknown parameters.

Replacing the SLC 5/04

    NOTICE

To avoid damage to electronic components, do not remove the processor from the SLC 5/04 Chassis until all power is removed from the power supply.

Do not expose memory modules to surfaces or areas that may typically hold an electrostatic charge.

  1. Disconnect the Battery by removing the battery connector from the socket.

    NOTICE

To avoid potential damage to the processor, handle all modules by the ends of the carrier or edges of the plastic housing. Skin oil or dirt can corrode metallic surfaces, inhibiting electrical contact.

  1. Connect the battery and the processor by attaching the battery connector to the socket.

  1. Align the processor and the guides in the chassis.

  1. Gently slide the module in the chassis. Secure the top retainer clips and secure the bottom retainer clips.
