Memory Module - Replace

Usage:

3608 1ZD
The memory module for the SLC 541 processor is called Flash Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (Flash EPROM). The Flash EPROM and the Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory have versatility of programming. The Flash EPROM also has the security of Ultra Viloet Light Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory. You have the option of write protected programs or unprotected programs. Use the software in order to write protect your Flash EPROM. You can also use the PROM programmer in order to write protect your Flash EPROM.

The memory modules consist of a Flash EPROM that is mounted on a circuit board. Two memory modules are available. Memory is backed up by the modules (32K - 64K).

The memory module is located on the SLC 541 processor in slot 0 of the PLC chassis.

Follow the troubleshooting procedures in this manual.

Verify that the memory module is the problem. Temporarily connect a new memory module. Remove the old memory module from the processor. Install the new memory module in the processor. Next program the parameters. The parameters must be programmed in the new memory module. Do not change any parameters when you program the new memory module.

If the new memory module resolves the problem, reconnect the old memory module. Verify that the problem returns. If the problem returns, replace the old memory module.

Consult your Caterpillar dealer in order to obtain any unknown parameters.

    NOTICE

To avoid damage to electronic components, do not remove the processor from the SLC 5/04 Chassis until all power is removed from the power supply.

Do not expose memory modules to surfaces or areas that may typically hold an electrostatic charge.

  1. Disconnect the power supply.

  1. Press the retaining clips at the top of the processor and press the retaining clips at the bottom of the processor.

  1. Grasp the connector with your thumb and index finger. Lift up on the ends of the carrier.

  1. When the end is partially raised, begin lifting the other end in the same manner. Repeat 4 until the memory module has been removed.

  1. Place the new module on the connector. Press the module in place.

    NOTICE

To avoid potential damage to the processor, handle all modules by the ends of the carrier or edges of the plastic housing. Skin oil or dirt can corrode metallic surfaces, inhibiting electrical contact.

  1. Align the processor and the guides in the chassis.

  1. Gently slide the processor in the chassis. Secure the top retainer clips and secure the bottom retainer clips.

  1. Install a wire tie in order to secure your wiring.

  1. Cover any unused slots. This protects the chassis.
