Disassembly Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    Typical example

  1. Put a mark (1) on end cap (3) and on the body of the heat exchanger. The mark will identify the proper position of the end cap for reassembly.

  1. Remove six bolts (2) from end cap (3) .

  1. Remove end cap (3) from the heat exchanger.

  1. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 in order to remove the end cap on the reverse end.

  1. Remove tube bundle (5) from the body of heat exchanger (4) .

  1. Discard the O-ring seals from both end caps.
