Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the cooling system. If the engine uses Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". If the engine uses Extended Life Coolant (ELC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
- Disconnect inlet hose (3) to the water temperature regulator housing (2) .

- Loosen the four hose clamps on hose (1) and hose (4). Slide the hoses toward the rear of the engine. Remove the water temperature regulator housing from the heat exchanger.
Installation Procedure

- Ensure that the water temperature regulator housing is clean. Ensure that the seat for the water temperature regulator is free of debris.
- Place water temperature regulator housing (2) into position on the heat exchanger. Slide hose (1) into position and tighten the hose clamps. Slide hose (4) into position and tighten the hose clamps. Connect inlet hose (3) and tighten the hose clamps for the water temperature regulator housing.

- Fill the cooling system. If the engine uses Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". If the engine uses Extended Life Coolant (ELC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
- Operate the engine. Check for leakage.
