Air Cleaner - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Turbocharged Engines

  1. Remove hose clamp (3) that connects the air cleaner to the turbocharger. Loosen hose clamp (1) and remove the hose that connects the air cleaner to the crankcase breather. Remove bracket (2) that supports the air cleaner. Remove the air cleaner from the engine.

  1. Remove internal support (4) from the air cleaner (if equipped).

  1. Remove screen (5) from the air cleaner.

  1. Remove air cleaner element (6) from the air cleaner.

  1. Remove air cleaner element (7) from the air intake housing.

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Turbocharged Engines

  1. Clean the air cleaner element in a solution of soap and water. If the element is damaged, replace the element. Clean the air cleaner housing. Install the element.

  1. Install screen (5) into the air cleaner.

  1. Install internal support (4) into the air cleaner.

  1. Install the air cleaner onto the engine. Install the hose for the crankcase breather. Tighten hose clamp (3) at the turbocharger. Install support bracket (2) onto the engine.

  1. Clean the air cleaner element in a solution of soap and water. If the element is damaged, replace the element.

  1. Push element (7) into the recess of the air intake housing.
