Installation Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Clean the mating surfaces of the pump housing and the timing case.
- Place a new O-ring seal into the groove of the pump housing. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
- Push auxiliary water pump (3) into position onto the front housing. Slide bracket (2) into position on mounting studs (1) .

- Install nuts (5) onto the mounting studs.

- Install bolt (4) onto the front housing. The bolt has a bushing (6) that helps secure the auxiliary water pump. Tighten the nuts and tighten the bolt. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

- Connect the inlet hose and the outlet hose.
- Connect the battery. Open the drain valve for the auxiliary water pump. Run the engine and check for leakage at the auxiliary water pump and at the hose connections. Check that water is being expelled from the exhaust pipe.
Note: Do not run the auxiliary water pump in a dry condition. The impeller blades of the auxiliary water pump will be damaged.
