Fan Drive Bearing - Lubricate

Usage:

SPT343 5XZ
The horizontal radiator is equipped with fan drive bearings that require service. The bearings for the fan drive need lubrication in order for the bearings to operate properly. Table 1 indicates the service intervals that are required for bearing lubrication. Use only a lithium grease. Do not mix different types of grease. If the engine is operated in severe conditions the bearings may need to be lubricated more frequently. The following examples are considered to be severe conditions: hot environments, dirty environments and humid environments.

(1) Grease fittings

Lubricate the bearings for the fan drive. The grease fittings (1) for the fan drive bearings are located on the side of the radiator frame. Add grease until the bearing seal just begins to bulge. Do not add too much grease to the bearings. This will cause the bearing seal to fail. If the bearing seal fails, contaminants will be able to get into the bearings. This will decrease the life of the bearings.
