Removal Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  1. Open access panel (1) and hood (2) .

  1. Remove panel (3) .

  1. Remove guards (4) and (5). Remove hose (6). Disconnect hose (8) and elbow (10). Remove panels (7) and (9) .

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (11) and remove belt (12) from the compressor. Remove mounting bolts (14) and position compressor (13) aside.

  1. Remove bolts (15) and (16) .

  1. Remove bolt (17) and bracket (18) .

  1. Disconnect hoses (19), (22), and (23). Remove mounting bolts (20) and water pump (21) .

Installation Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Position water pump (21) and install mounting bolts (20). Connect hoses (23), (22), and (19) .

  1. Install bracket (18) and bolt (17) .

  1. Install bolts (16) and (15) .

  1. Position compressor (13) and install mounting bolts (14). Install belt (12) onto the compressor and connect harness assembly (11) .

  1. Install panels (7) and (9). Connect hose (8) and elbow (10). Install guards (4) and (5). Install hose (6) .

  1. Install panel (3) .

  1. Close hood (2) and access panel (1) .

  1. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Level - Check".
