Recoil Spring - Remove and Install

Start By:
- Remove the track adjuster. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Track Adjuster - Remove and Install".
- Remove bolts (1) and idler assembly (2) .

- Remove cotter pin (2). Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to compress recoil spring (5). Loosen nut (3) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force. Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment. Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force. |

- Slowly release the spring tension. Remove nut (3), plate (4), and recoil spring (5) from cylinder assembly (6) .

- Install recoil spring (5), plate (4), and nut (3) onto cylinder assembly (6) .

- Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to compress recoil spring (5) to Dimension (X). Tighten nut (3) and install cotter pin (2) .

- Slowly release the spring tension.
- Apply Tooling (B) to bolts (1). Position idler assembly (2) and install bolts (1) .
