Aftercooler - Remove

Usage:

Removal Procedure


    NOTICE

    Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

    Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  1. Remove bolts (2) .

  1. Disconnect tube (1) at both ends and remove tube (1) .

  1. Remove bolts (3) .

  1. Remove bolts (6) .

  1. Remove spacers (7) .

  1. Loosen clamp (4) and remove filter (5) .

  1. Disconnect harness assemblies (8) .

  1. Remove bolt (9) (not shown).

  1. Loosen clamp (11) .

  1. Remove tube (10) .

  1. Disconnect tube (12) at each end and remove tube (12) .

  1. Loosen clamps (16) .

  1. Slide hose (15) up tube (14) .

  1. Remove bolts (13) .

  1. Remove tube (14) .

  1. Thread 2 bolts (6 mm) into flange (17) . This will allow removal of flange (17) from the aftercooler.

  1. Remove bolt (20) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the core assembly and aftercooler housing (19) .

  1. Remove bolts (18) .

  1. Remove the core assembly and aftercooler housing (19) . The weight of the core assembly and aftercooler housing (19) is approximately 41 kg (90 lb).

  1. Remove gaskets (21) and the core assembly from aftercooler housing (19) .

  1. Remove O-ring seals (22) .

  1. Remove bolts (24) .

    Note: Three of bolts (24) have a washer with rubber seal (25) .

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to remove aftercooler housing (23) from the manifold.

  1. Remove seals (26) from manifold (27) .
