切毋在蓄电池未接入电路中的情况下使交流发电机运转。 在电路中存在重负载时连接或断开交流发电机的接线都可能导致调压器的损坏。

交流发电机由发动机右前端的辅助设备驱动装置通过皮带驱动。 该交流发电机为3相、自整流充电设备。 调压器 (1) 是交流发电机的一部分。

该种交流发电机采用无需滑环或电刷的设计,其唯一运动部件是转子总成 (7) 。 全部承载电流的导电体都是固定不动的。 导电体是激磁绕组 (6) 、定子绕组 (3) 、6个整流二极管和调压器电路的部件。

转子总成 (7) 有许多磁极。 在相对的磁极之间有气隙。

磁极残余的磁力在磁极之间产生少量的磁力线。 在转子总成 (7) 开始在磁场绕组 (6) 和定子绕组 (3) 之间转动之际,在定子绕组中会产生了少量交流电。 该电流是由磁极的剩磁产生的少量磁力线形成的。 该交流电被转变成直流电。 这一转变发生在电流通过整流桥 (5) 的二极管时。 该电流的大部分完成两个功能。 一个功能是向蓄电池充电并低电流强度电路提供电流。 其余的电流被输送到由缠绕在铁芯上的导线制成的磁场绕组 (6) 。 流经磁场绕组的直流电增强了磁力线的强度。 这些变强的磁力线提高了定子绕组 (3) 中产生的交流电量。 转子组件 (7) 的转速加快,也能提高交流发电机的电流和电压输出。

调压器 (1) 是一个固态电子开关。 调压器感测系统中的电压。 调压器在1秒钟内断开和接通磁场电流许多次,籍此控制交流发电机的磁场电流。 交流发电机的输出电压向蓄电池和电气系统中的其它部件提供其用电之需。 充电率不可调整。
