Programming The Electronic Ignition System (EIS) Control Module For The Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) Sensor.{1408, 1901}

Usage:

G3408C 3WR
Engine:
G3408C (S/N: 3WR1-UP)
G3412C (S/N: 6ZM1-UP; 5KR1-UP)
G3508 (S/N: 4WD1-UP; 9TG1-UP)
G3512 (S/N: 5JD1-UP; 7NJ1-UP)
G3516 (S/N: 8LD1-UP; 4EK1-UP)

The following controls have been equipped with a new feature:

  • 153-1811 EIS Control Module

  • 153-1812 EIS Control Module

  • 153-1813 EIS Control Module

The new feature will allow you to choose between two sensors for inlet manifold air pressure. The MAP Sensor will be selected using the DDT service tool. The EIS Control Modules can be configured for the following pressure sensors:

  • The 3E-1854 MAP Sensor has a pressure range of 25 to 340 kPa.

  • The 149-7064 MAP Sensor has a pressure range of 35 to 320 kPa.

The new EIS Control Modules will be programmed for the 3E-1854 MAP Sensor . This is the default setting, so no change is required for the 3E-1854 MAP Sensor . Engines which are equipped with the 149-7064 MAP Sensor need new control modules. The new modules will need to be programmed with the DDT using the NEXG4529 service program module chip.

Programming for the MAP Sensor is similar to programming other customer specified parameters. The following procedure is for programming engines with the 149-7064 MAP Sensor .

  1. Turn the mode control switch to the "STOP" position so that power is applied to the EIS Control Module.

  1. Check the part number of the MAP Sensor on the engine. Ensure that the number on the MAP Sensor is 149-7064.

  1. Make sure that the part number for the EIS Control Module is 153-1811, 153-1812, or 153-1813.

Note: Other EIS Control Modules will not work with the 149-7064 MAP Sensor .

  1. Enter the numbers "00" on the DDT and press the "Enter" key. The software version of the DDT must be version 1.0 or the software must be newer than version 1.0. The software date code of the DDT must must be 4/00 or newer

Note: Older versions of the DDT software do not have the option for selecting the MAP Sensor. If you have an older version of the software you will need to order the newest version of DDT software. You must use the number "NEXG4529" in your order. The new DDT software is only needed if you have the 149-7064 MAP Sensor .

  1. Go to the "CSP" menu (screen 03) by pressing the "Select Mode" key.

  1. Go to the "INLET MAN PR" screen (screen 36) by pressing the "SELECT FUNC" key. This screen will show the present configuration of the MAP Sensor:

    • 25-340 kPa (This is for the 3E-1854 MAP Sensor)

    • 35-320 kPa (This is for the 149-7064 MAP Sensor)

Note: The Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) Sensor can not be configured when engine speed is present.

  1. Press the "ALT1" key and then press the "ENTER" key. This will change the configuration.

Note: If the 149-7064 MAP Sensor is compared to the 3E-1854 MAP Sensor with the same EIS Control Module, the reading of the PWM duty cycle will be two to four percent lower for the 149-7064. This is true for normal atmospheric pressure of approximately 100 kPa.
