Inlet and Exhaust Valves - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the cylinder head assembly.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Place the cylinder head assembly in an upright position. See Illustration 1.

  1. Use Tool (A) to compress valve springs (3). Remove retainer locks (1) .

  1. Remove Tool (A). Remove valve rotator (2) and valve springs (3) .

  1. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 in order to remove valve springs (5) and bridge supports (6) .

  1. Remove valves (4) from the cylinder head.

  1. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 in order to remove the remaining inlet valves and exhaust valves.

  1. Lubricate the inlet valve (7) and the exhaust valve (8) with clean engine oil. Install the inlet valves and exhaust valves in the cylinder head assembly.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    The valve keepers can be thrown from the valve when the valve spring compressor is released. Ensure that the valve keepers are properly installed on the valve stem. To help prevent personal injury, keep away from the front of the valve keepers and valve springs during the installation of the valves.

    ----------------------

    Note: A small amount of grease can be used to hold the retainer locks in position during installation.

  1. Place the following items on the valve stem: bridge support (6), valve springs (3) and valve rotators (2) .

  1. Use Tool (A) to compress valve springs (3). Install retainer locks (1) .

  1. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 in order to install the remaining inlet valves and exhaust valves.

End By: Install the cylinder head assembly.
