Before you install the damper, inspect the condition of the damper. Repair the damper or replace the damper for any of the following conditions:

  • The damper is dented, cracked, or leaking.

  • The paint on the damper is discolored from heat.

  • The engine has had a failure because of a broken crankshaft.

  • An analysis of the oil has revealed that the front bearing of the crankshaft is badly worn.

  • There is a large amount of gear train wear that is not caused by a lack of oil.

    Typical example

  1. Install two 1-14 NF guide bolts in the end of the crankshaft.

  2. Install Tool (A) onto damper (3). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tool (A). The weight of the damper is approximately 79 kg (175 lb).

  3. Lift damper (3) into position according to alignment marks (5) and (6) on the end of the crankshaft and on the damper.

  4. Coat bolts (4) with 2P-2506 Thread Compound. Install bolts (4) in order to hold the damper in position. Remove the two guide bolts from the end of the crankshaft. Install the rest of bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 1125 ± 100 N·m (830 ± 75 lb ft).
