Drift Reduction Valve (Boom) - Remove

Removal Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove five bolts (1) and the washers. Remove walkway (2) .

  1. Remove electrical connector (3) .

  1. Disconnect clip (5) that holds hose (4) to pipe (8) .

  1. Remove bolts (6) from pipe (8) .

  1. Disconnect hose (7) .

  1. Disconnect two hose assemblies (9) .

  1. Remove two bolts (11) and the washers. Remove clamp (10) .

  1. Use a suitable tie to hold pipe (8) away from the drift reduction valve (13). Fasten a lifting strap and a hoist to the drift reduction valve (13). Remove bolts (12). The weight of the valve is 36 kg (80 lb).

    Note: Tube (8) will cause some obstruction. Rotate the drift reduction valve toward the counterweight.

  1. Remove the drift reduction valve (13) from the machine.
