THIS TECHNICAL INFORMATION BULLETIN REPLACES THE JANUARY 13, 1999 EXCAVATOR TIB, COMPONENT CODE: 5460, "NEW SWING BRAKE CYLINDER REQUIRES REMOVAL OF NEW HOSE POSITION IN ORDER TO BE INSTALLED CORRECTLY". DESTROY THE JANUARY 13, 1999 TIB. IT WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE SEMI-ANNUAL INDEX.
Problem:
The air bleed valve for the swing brake cylinder assembly is connected in a different position than the former cylinder assembly. The location of the air bleed valve on the new cylinder assembly can interfere with the mounting of the cylinder onto the swing drive.
Solution:
The 8U-9582 Cylinder Assembly is the service replacement part for the former 5W-2403 Cylinder Assembly. If the 8U-9582 Cylinder Assembly cannot be installed without interference from other parts, use the following steps to ensure the correct mounting of the swing brake cylinder.
NOTE: Use illustration on Page 2 to identify the references listed.
- 1. Remove cap (B) and air bleed valve (A) on the cylinder air bleed connection of the 8U-9582 Cylinder Assembly (1).
- 2. Install a 5W-2879 Screw to plug the hole of the air bleed connection before the 8U-9582 Cylinder Assembly (1) is installed in the swing brake.
- 3. The clearance between the screw and mounting surface (D) should be reduced enough to correctly mount the 8U-9582 Cylinder Assembly.
- 4. To bleed all air out of the cylinder, fill the cylinder completely with hydraulic oil and bleed this circuit at the joint of the hydraulic hose and the brake cylinder.
