The engine cooling fan pulley needs to be replaced on certain 305.5E2CR Excavators, not equipped with the air conditioning system configuration. The existing fan pulley cannot satisfy the engine cooling performance specification. This can cause an overheating warning in short time operation with heavy work load. The machine software also can show a high coolant temperature warning before specific threshold temperature.

Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.

Rework Procedure

- Replace the fan pulley and a fan belt to change the pulley ratio from 1.00 to 1.11. This can increase the cooling performance.

- Install insulation in order to maintain the same current sound level.

- Update the machine software to the latest version. This will change the coolant warning temperature from 105 degrees Celsius to 110 degrees Celsius.

Rework of the Fan Pulley and Addition of Insulation:

1. Move the machine to a flat ground, place the implement down on to the ground, and stop the engine.

2. Open a rear engine access door.

3. Remove the bolts and washers in order to remove the fan guard. Remove the fan guard. Retain the bolts and washers for later reuse. Refer to Image1.2.1.

4. Remove the bolts and the fan. Retain the bolts and fan for later reuse. Refer to Image1.3.1 and 1.3.2.

5. Remove the fan pulley and belt.

6. Two 393-9229 Insulations need to be installed to the each of the locations in order to help maintain the same sound level when the pulley ratio is changed.
Install the 393-9119 Insulation under the shroud assembly. Refer to Image1.4.1 and 1.4.2 for the location.

7. Install a new 383-0480 Belt and new 383-0383 Pulley.

8. Install the fan that was previously removed.

9. Install the bolts that were previously removed. Tighten the bolts to a specified torque of 10.5 +/- 0.7 N.m.

10. Adjust the fan belt. Refer to SEBU9410, Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belt - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".

11. Reinstall the removed fan guard with the removed bolts and washers.

12. Remove bolts and washers from the bottom guard. Remove the bottom guard. Refer to Image1.6.1.

13. Access the rear frame. Clean the location on the frame where the new insulation will be installed.

14. Install a new 393-9119 Insulation to the frame. Refer to Image1.7.1 and 1.7.2 for the location.
